Father-Son Bonding Time

For Benjy's big "thank you" from me, I got him his dream gun. (ya, I know. I am still rolling my eyes) Benjy has been talking about getting a SKS for the last several years. He found one on KSL for a pretty reasonable price so I went and got it for him as a surprise. The gun came covered and packed in cosmolene (it is kind of like oil and Vaseline mixed together) so Benjy has spent HOURS cleaning it. Once the gun is completely disassembled (and not a second before because I am a freak), Rees likes to perch himself next to Dad and play with the extra cleaning rod. He will sit there and jabber away and swing the rod around like a baton. Why do we even stress about this kid having toys?

I think it's great you got Benji a gun....and that Rees can experience that too. That's the best way to get a child into safety habits. Most accidents happen to children who have NO clue about guns and are never exposed to them. It's the kids who don't know about guns and aren't aloud to be around them, that get curious, sneak off, and play with their daddy's guns. Since you and Benji expose him to safety around a gun it will curb his thoughts of sneaking behind your back. He knows that if he wants to see it-that his parents will show him properly. What a bonding moment for a father(:

That was such a nice comment! I thought for sure I was going to get a bunch of people freaking out on me (since most people don't think of the point behind doing this) so thanks for the confidence!

Rees looks so cute playing with that rod. I had to laugh. My dad would clean his guns in front of us and I think it made us a million times less likely to mess with them because we knew what they could do.

I definitely agree! We have guns in our house as well, the kids need to be around them because accidents are more likely to happen when they are curious.

Dan is SO jealous :) He thinks that is the coolest present ever, and I have to agree!
