Lifting the Cone of Silence

At the end of October, Benjy came home from work one day and dropped the first bombshell of many. He felt like he needed to get out of construction completely. He said that something was nagging him and he just wasn’t happy anymore. We spent the rest of the night and weekend talking, praying, and me bawling my guts out most of the time. Even though no decisions were made, we did decide that Benjy’s instincts to find something else were correct. We decided on a few options but nothing for sure. A few weeks later the 2nd bomb went off. Benjy had been laid off again. He wasn’t given a reason and he has no idea what happened or why and didn’t even know it was coming. Obviously Benjy’s instincts are much more in tune than mine are. Who would have thought this would ever happen again?

Well, just before Benjy was laid off he decided to test with Metro again (Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department). Since he no longer had a job the timing was perfect. He tested at the beginning of this month and passed his written and physical exams and also passed his oral board. He is scheduled to take his psych tests, background interview, and polygraph the week of December 8th. Yeah! We are actually really excited and really and truly feel like this is what we are supposed to be doing.

Just before we came back from Vegas, I got a call from our land lord. We have been politely asked to vacate our apartment no later than December 13th. They need to do some remodeling and plumbing work and it can be done while the apartment is in use. So basically, WE ARE BEING KICKED OUT OF UTAH. What are the odds? Benjy’s recruiting officer thinks that if Benjy passes everything, he will be in the February academy. This means we need an apartment for two months. People don’t like to give 2 month leases. Thankfully Benjy’s parents offered to let us stay with them and we have accepted. Yes, we are moving to Delta. The move date is December 5th. We are of course nervous about this but incredibly grateful.

So here is the run down…Benjy got fired…Now we are trying to get on with Metro…We have been evicted…Benjy’s parents have opened their basement up as a homeless shelter for us.

Esther-this is probably your phone call. Sorry man

Andrea P and Kristy- Since you guys are related to Powel Family Trust, even though we still love you guys, thanks for making us homeless (JK!)

Mandy-Nope, I still haven’t left Benjy yet :)

To everyone else-Sorry this is probably chuck full of grammatical errors. By the way we figure the next bomb to drop is to have our car break. We would much rather have it conveniently stolen so at least we don't have to make payments on it. I just saying...if you want to help and all. (Horschman's- which casino is vegas did you park at :) )

I am glad you updated your blog but I am sorry about all that has been going on! Sounds so stressful, good thing your strong! Sounds like you will be moving to Vegas eventually then right? Yahoo! House prices are so cheap and they are suppose to stay down through next year so that would be cool if you could get a house. You probably could once Benjy starts being a cop. You can email me if you want to know just how cheap these houses are! It's insane!

Glad to hear you and Benji are going strong :). You know you can call us if you need anything - a basement to live in, a job, a night of apple beer and Guitar Hero, you name it you got it! We will miss you tons when you leave, so you had BETTER start calling me! PS - If we happen to get any traffic violations while in Vegas, would Officer Comeau be able to help us out? It hasn't happened yet, but it's only a matter of time. :) PPS - if your car DOES get stolen, will you let me know where you parked it so they can take mine, too? Thanks!

The Stratosphere is a sure bet. Park it there for a few days and it'll disappear. But make sure you have your insurance company's phone number handy! We know things will eventually work out for the best, but in the mean time, feel free to bunk with us up in Washington! Love and miss you guys.

Oh my goodness Ashley! That is so crazy that all this is happening at once. I'm sure you are so stressed but you seem to be handling it well. I'm glad you'll have a place to stay for the next couple months. We'll be thinking of you! And Utah is kicking us out too, just not in the same way.

OMG?!?!?! I can't believe that happened to you guys. I'm so sorry how bad of a month you've had. I sure hope everything works out with Metro. It will be fun to have you guys that close too (only 3.5 hours from us). I'm so sorry about what happened with the apartments. I truly can't believe that he would do anything like that. We wish you the best of luck through the worst time and trust us, it always works out how it's supposed to.

Yeah, you forgot to mention in your 'phone message' "down here for a couple days because we have no job or someplace to live so we're bummin' around in Vegas for a job!!!!! let's hang out" Or did I just miss that part of the message?!?!? ;) Well like my Dad says "either you're doing something wrong and God's punishing you or you're doing something right and Satan is punishing you" Those words have always uplifted me, so I pass them onto you :) Okay so you probably really hate me about now, soooo let me know when Benjy gets on the Dept. and you want to hang out :)

You guys are awesome, true examples!

Love ya

This post hits WAY too close to home. Except we are just still waiting for the layoffs to hit and we don't know where we are going yet. Best of everything. Keep trusting in God.

Wow, I hope things are working out for you guys since you posted this. Why does it always seem like everything happens at once? That's the way life works for us anyways...a million things happening at once, or a lot of big changes at one time. It's nice to have family to rely on at times like that, huh.

Well since you guys are most likely going to live in Vegas...do you want to buy a house?! j/k (unless your really interested) ;-)

Good luck to Benjy on the job process! I'll keep checking your blog for updates!
